Search; If You Don’t Rank, You Tank
If you're looking for a Google Ads and SEO specialist strategy, this may not be the place—but for the brands I work with, I implement a focused SEO approach that enhances not only their Google ranking but also their social proof. It’s a two-pronged strategy:
Ongoing optimisation of your Google Business Profile, including managing ratings and reviews.
Creating and updating SEO-optimised website content.
I’ve helped businesses grow organic search traffic and drive more customers by optimising their Google Business Profile alongside a strong ratings and reviews strategy. This is complemented by creating new website content (blogs, product descriptions, etc.) and updating existing pages (about sections, product pages, etc.).
The Google Business Profile strategy is straightforward:
Use the tools available, keep your profile regularly updated, and respond to reviews.
Build a system that encourages customer reviews.
The first element is simple, so I won’t go into detail. However, growing your reviews can be more challenging. For one brand I work with, we implemented a strategy by creating posters in their retail location that encouraged reviews. A simple ask, combined with a QR code on a branded template, made it easy for customers. Another, slightly more complex approach involves training staff to ask for reviews effectively—something many are reluctant to do or unsure how to approach. While this may seem like extra effort, the benefits of building your Google ratings and reviews are significant.
Not only do reviews improve rankings, but they also serve as social proof, helping potential customers decide whether to buy from you. As Demand Hub points out, "72% of people say that positive reviews make them trust a local business more."
Google reviews can also help you rank for relevant keywords. For example, if customers leave reviews saying "Best coffee in [city name]," this is powerful for both your Google ranking and social proof.
By strategically incentivising ratings and reviews, you can significantly improve your local SEO while engaging your current customers.
The second approach is creating and updating website content. The strategy involves incorporating relevant keywords and search terms naturally into your content. A quick win here is embedding some of your keyword-optimised Google reviews into key pages on your website. This expands opportunities for social proof while optimising existing content with keywords. Winner winner.
